Title: Alive Like The Dead
Length Type: One Act
Approx. Running Time: 70 – 100 minutes
In this one-act play, the boundaries between life and death blur as the living and the dead interact in a small Georgian village. The story begins with Suliko, an elderly woman, who is visited by her deceased husband, Murman, who informs her that she has passed away. Suliko is reluctant to accept her death but eventually agrees to accompany Murman to the afterlife. Meanwhile, Suliko’s neighbor, Ketino, dreams of her late husband, Zviad, who requests that she send him a raincoat and shoes through Suliko’s coffin.
As Suliko’s family prepares for her funeral, they grapple with the bizarre request, ultimately deciding to dig up her grave to fulfill Zviad’s wish. The play explores themes of tradition, the afterlife, and the peculiar ways in which the living honor the dead. In the end, Ketino also passes away, and the cycle of life and death continues, leaving the characters to reflect on the strange and often humorous nature of existence.
The play blends humor, folklore, and a touch of the supernatural, offering a unique perspective on mortality and the connections between the living and the departed
